Portugal 2008 - Hugo Almeida

 

 

Hugo Miguel Pereira de Almeida nasceu a dia 23 de Maio 1984 na Figueira da Foz. Deu os seus primeiros passos no clube distrital Buarcos antes de fazer o seguinte em mudar-se para o Naval 1° de Maio. Concluiu a sua formação como jovem ja no FC Porto durante o seu último ano como Junior em 2001/02. 

Chamado para a equipa principal, teve dificuldades em se impor devido á forte concorrência com jogadores como Derlei, Benny Mc Carthy ou mais tarde Lisandro Lopez, todos eles a atuar na mesma posição, que era ponta de lança. Mesmo com os seus pontos fortes, que era o jogo aereo e um remate poderoso, não foi suficiente para convencer os treinadores. Isso resultou em vários empréstimos ao longo de quatro anos. Na sua última estação, Werder Bremen, o clube alemão accionou a opção de compra e assim ficou na cidade nortenha, que seria uma das suas estações mais felizes. Depois da partida de Mirolsav Klose para Munique, a escolha caiu nele como primeira opção e ele retribuiu com golos. Na sua primeira época como jogador do Bremen, foram 16 em total o que ajudou alcançar o segundo lugar. Um ano mais tarde ajudou ganhar a Taça.

Transferiu-se para o Besiktas no inverno de 2010/11 onde permaneceu até 2014, juntando mais um Taça nacional ao curriculo. A seguir apenas teve curtas passagens por vários clubes como Hannover, AEK Atenas ou Hajduk, antes de terminar a carreira como jogador em 2020 na Académica de Coimbra.

Repesentou Portugal em todos escalões, desde os Sub16. Pela Seleção A alinhou em 57 partídas, marcando 19 golos, e foi convocado para os Mundiais 2010 e 2014, tal como para o Europeu em 2012.

Esta camisola foi utlizada por ele num amigável contra a Itália em 2008, onde foi suplente utilizado. 

 

Hugo Miguel Pereira de Almeida was born on 24th of May 1984 in the town of Figueira da Foz. After kicking the ball first at his local club Buarcos, he moved to Naval 1° de Maio, where he underwent most of his education. In his last year as a junior, he moved to FC Porto and became professional right after in 2002. As a striker he had to fight against strong competitiors like Derlei, Benny Mc Carthy and later Lisandro Lopez, what led into several loans along the years. In 2007 he joined Werder Bremen who had paid the clause to sign him. And as if the stars aligned, he replaced leaving Miroslav Klose as first choice. He repaid with many goals, 16 in that season, helping the team reach second spot in Germany. One year later he even helped to win the Cup. 

In winter 2010/11 he left Bremen for Besiktas, where he played until 2014, again with a median of 1 goal every two matches. He helped the team win the Turkish Cup in 2011. 

After that his career became more incosistent with only short spells at 7 clubs in five years. In 2020 he ended his career at Académico Coimbra.

For Portugal he played in every level, starting by U16, and was called 57 times to play for Portugals National Team, scoring 19 goals. He was called to represent Portugal in two WC, 2010 and 2014, and for the 2012 European Championship.

Benfica 2003 - Petit

Armando Gonçalves Teixeira nasceu a 25 de Setembro 1976 em Strasbourg na França. Os pais dele regressaram a Portugal quando tinha dois anos de idade e estabeleceram-se na fréguesia de Paranhos no Porto onde ele também deu os primeiros toques na bola que iria mudar a sua vida para sempre.

Como junior jogou pelo Bom Pastor e no Boavista, antes de passar alguns anos em clubes modestos de ligas secundárias para mais tarde ingressar no Gil Vicente em 1999. Foi no clube de Barcelos que teve uma evolução enorme, ajudando alcançar a melhor pontuação de sempre e apenas por pouco não conseguir a qualificação para a Taça Uefa.

Isso não passou despercebido no Bessa, para onde voltou na época seguinte e mais uma vez voltou a brilhar. Foi fundamental na única conquista do Campeonato para o Boavista em 2001, para entrar na história como quinto clube em Portugal a vencer um Campeonato. A época espectacular do Boavista, com Petit a brilhar numa equipa forte, merceu-lhe o título individual de "Jogador do ano".

Após mais uma época muito boa, foi contratado pelo Benfica em 2002. O clube da Luz ja não tinha ganho um titulo nacional desde 1996 e procurava estabilidade no meio campo defensivo. Petit, que ganhou a alcunha por ter nascido em Franca, tal como ter uma estatura compacta, também foi ganhando fama como Pitbull, pela sua maneira agressiva de ocupar a sua posição. Foi praticamente titular desde início e tornou-se numa peça fundamental, seja sob qual treinador fosse. 

Na sua segunda época ja conseguiu ajudar a vencer a Taça de Portugal que foi uma vitória emocional, ja que em Janeiro o companheiro de equipa, Miklos Feher, tinha falecido em campo e marcou o resto da época para o Benfica. Em 2005 seguiu-se o tão desejado 31° campeonato, que escapava ha 12 anos.

Petit continuou mais três épocas de águia ao peito, deixando o Benfica em 2008 para abraçar uma nova aventura no estrangeiro. Assinou pelo 1. FC Köln, onde foi feliz durante quatro épocas.

Este modelo fez parte dos equipamentos criados pelo centenário do Benfica. O equipamento principal foi estreado a meio da época no derbi de Lisboa a 4 de Janeiro 2004, enquanto o alternativo foi no jogo dos 1/4 finais da Taça contra o Nacional. Ambos foram referências ás primeiras camsiolas que tivemos, sendo interessante que o Benfica apenas em 1943 teve um segundo equipamento. Eles foram utilizados também a época seguinte, e houve pelomenos dois diferentes principais e três alternativos. 

Armando Gonçalves Teixeira, better known as Petit, was born on 25th of September in Strasbourg/France. The nickname is direct hint on where he was born, plus a reference to his build.

His parents returned to Portugal when he was 2 years old and settled in the greater Porto area. He started playing in the local club before getting proper education at the Boavista juniors. 

After that he started playing for second tier clubs before being discovered by Gil Vicente club in 1999. And here is where the story begins: In his first season he became an important part of the team and helped it reaching the best position ever, only missing by little the qualification to the UEFA Cup. His old club Boavista noticed how he had developed and signed him back in 2000. His ascension continued and he helped the team win the league title, only to become the fifth team in Portugal having won it. Among a strong team he shone brighter and that earned him the title of player of the year. 

After another strong season, Benfica signed him to give more stability to the defensive midfield, where he interpreted the role of a 6er very active and strong, so that it earned him the nickname "Pitbull". Benfica hadn`t won any silverware in 6 years and it should be a good decision. 

In his second season (he was already a fundamental player), Benfica won the Cup. It was a very emotional victory, as they lost their teammate Miklos Feher during a match a few months earlier. In 2005 then, finally, the so much desired 31st championship. 

Petit played for Benfica during three more seasons, lining up in more than 200 matches before the embraced a new adventure, that was leaving Portugal and play abroad. He signed for 1. FC Köln, where he spent four more seasons before hanging his boots.

This shirt is part of the kits created for the centenary of the club. The homekit was introduced for the derby of Lisbon on 4th of January 2004, while the away kit had its first appearance in the Cup match vs Nacional, a few weeks later. Both are a reminiscence to the first ever so used kits. Fun fact: the first alternative kit we had only appeared in 1943. 

The kits were used half of the 03/04 season and full season 05/06 and i know of at least two versions of the homekit and three of the away kit.

Portugal 1988 - Vítor Paneira

 

 

 

Vítor Paneira nasceu a 12 de Fevreiro 1966 em Vila Nova de Famalicão. Cedo ja se podia notar a sua vontade de jogar futebol, e abencoado com muito talento destacou-se primeiro em torneios de futebol de salão, antes de se inscrever no GD Riopele. Mas pouco depois, em 1983, foi para o maior clube do conselho, o FC Famalicão onde permaneceu quatro épocas. Em 1987 estava perto de assinar pelo FC Vizela, mas o Benfica conseguiu desvia-lo, cedendo o mesmo por uma época ao Vizela. 

Chegou a Lisboa então em 1988, depois de uma época em grande no Vizela. Deixou o clube nortenho como melhor marcador antes de iniciar a aventura na Luz. 

A sua primeira época correu muito bem, sagrando-se campeão e conquistando a titularidade quase de início. Mas foi na época seguinte, sob o comando do saudoso Sven-Göran Eriksson, que se tornou mesmo um jogador de nível internacional. Era um jogador de direita. Não so o seu pé preferido é o direito, mas também ocupava o corredor direito completo. Foi utilizado como defesa direito (não muito, mas quando era necessário) mas geralmente aparecia no meio campo ou na ála direita. Destacou-se pela críatividade e visão de jogo, tal como pelos passes. Tornou-se um jogador com muitas assistências.

Nas épocas seguintes manteve-se como titular no Benfica e somando títulos. Um que não conseguiu foi o de Campeão Europeu, onde em 1990 chegou a Final contra o Milan. 

Deixou o Benfica, após sete épocas ao mais alto nível, e com quase 300 jogos oficiais, em 1995 por opção do treinador, o que aínda hoje é visto como uma das maiores injustiças contra um jogador do Benfica. Rumou ao Vitória de Guimarães onde permaneceu quatro épocas, e mais tarde terminou a carreira na Académica em 2001. 

A sua primeira internacionalização foi em 1988 contra a Suécia e a última em 1996 contra a Républica da Irlânda. Vestiu a camisola das quinas em 44 ocasiões, marcando 4 golos. 

Este modelo foi utilizado por Portugal entre 1987 e 1990, e o modelo alternativo mesmo aínda em 1991. 

Vítor Paneira was born on 12th of February 1966 in Vila Nova de Famalicao. Already as a kid it was notable that football played an important role in his life. He inicially played indoor football, but due to his strong performances he changed to football and started at GD Riopele, an old workers team of the same named textile fabric that even played in the first division in the 70s. Only one year later Paneira moved to the biggest club of the county, FC Famalicao where he spent 4 seasons. In 1987 he was about to be signed by second tier FC Vizela, but an intervention by Benfica couldn`t be ignored and so he signed for the Lisbon club, while being loaned to Vizela during the first season. 

When he finally arrived in Lisbon, he had added quite impressing figures to his CV. At Vizeal he not only was a regular starter but ended as best goalscorer of the team with 15 goals.

In 1988 he almost immediately conquered a spot in the starting 11, helping the team to regain the title. But only in the following season he made a big step forward, when coach Sven-Göran Eriksson took over. His positions included everything on the right side of the pitch. Generally a right midfielder, he emerged to a winger, but due to his versatility he even played as a right defender. But his main assets was his creativity and vison of the game. Long range passes were feared by the defence lines of the opponents and loved by his teammates. He as king of assists of his team.

He continued as starter in basically every of the following seasons helping the team to win silverware. When he left in 1995 he had won 3 Championships, one Cup and one Supercup. The ECC he didn`t win. Benfica was defeated by Milan in the 1990 Final. 

After almost 300 official matchs he left Benfica basically out of the blue because he didn`t count into the new coachs plans. He spent four seasons at Vitória Guimarães and ended his career as a player at Académica Coimbra in 2001. Today he is the coach of FC Varzim.

For Portugal he made 44 appearances and scored 4 goals during 1988 and 1996.
