Portugal 2002 - Capucho



Nuno Fernando Gonçalves da Rocha nasceu a 21 de Fevreiro 1972 em Barcelos. Foi ai que começou a jogar futebol para o Gil Vicente FC e em 1990 estreou se para a equipa principal. Permaneceu duas épocas antes de ser transferido para o Sporting em 1992. Em três épocas conseguiu ganhar a Taça de Portugal em 1995, antes de se transferir para o Vitória Guimarães. Dois anos mais tarde o seu destino foi o FC Porto com qual ele conseguiu os seus maiores successos. Logo na primeira época sagrou se campeão e um ano mais tarde bi-campeão. Ainda venceu mais um Campeonato na sua última época em Portugal e partiu, depois de ter ganho a Taça UEFA, para a Escócia. Ironicamente o seu destino foi o rival da equipa que bateu com o FC Porto em Sevilha. No Glasgow Rangers apenas permaneceu o ano seguinte e depois de se ter transferido para o Celta de Vigo em 2004 terminou a sua carreira ao fim da época.
Capucho era um ala direito de categoria com bom entendimento táctico e fortes dribblings e foi peça fundamental no Porto durante a sua estadia no clube.
Na Selecção fez parte da equipa Sub20 que se sagrou Campeã do Mundo em Lisboa em 1991. Estreou-se para a Selecção A em 1996 e participou nos Jogos Olimpicos onde Portugal terminou em 4° Lugar. Ele também fez parte das equipas que participaram no Euro 2000 e no Mundial 2002.
A camisola apresentada foi utilizada por ele no jogo contra a Suécia em 2002.

Nuno Fernando Goncalves da Rocha was born on 21st of Februar 1972 in Barcelos and started playing for his hometown at Gil Vicente FC. In 1990 he had his first appereance for the 1st team of Gil Vicente before he moved on in 1992 to Sporting Lisbon. In three years at the portuguese capital he managed to win a Cup in 1995. After that he signed a contract with Vitória Guimaraes. Next stop was FC Porto in 1997 and this was a stage where everything seemed to lead to a perfect goal. Right in his first season he helped the club win the Championship and repeated it in the following season. Best was yet to come when he added the UEFA Cup to the domestic title in 2003. Ironically after that he moved to the arch rival of Celtic Glasgow, who were beaten by Porto, Glasgow Rangers. It was a short stay of just one season and after one more season at Celta Vigo e retired in 2005.
Capucho was a right winger with very good dribbling and scoring skills. Furthermore he possued of a good tactical understanding that made him a valuable player for defensive work.
In the Portuguese National team he was part of the U20 team that conquered the WC in 1991 on home soil. His first appereance for the principal team was in 1996. He was member of the team that ended 4th placed in the Olympic Games. He was also called up to represent Portugal during Euro2000 and the 2002 WC.
