José Augusto Pinto de Almeida is one of the all time greatest of portuguese football. He was born on Apr. 13th, 1937 in Barreiro where he started his football formation. His position was right winger where he evolved to one of the best players of the world.

English society was still recovering of the Munich air disaster, where many of Manchester Uniteds players lost their lives. The country tried to get back to normality by arranging a few friendlies ahead of the 1958 WC in Sweden. Portugal was one of these and even though they lost, they didn´t make it easy for England. Bobby Charlton, one of the survivors of Munich, scored twice, enough to win 2:1.
For José Augusto this was the start of a great carrer. He played 10 years for Portugal and a total of 45 matches. He played again in England in 1966 and returned with as 3rd placed. Furthermore he became Worldchampion of Military Nationalteams in 1958 and was called twice to represent Europe in friendlies.
After his carreer as player he became manager of several teams, including Portugal which he guided to the 2nd spot of the Minicopa 1972 tournament. Lateron he coached the portuguese womans National team between 2004-07.
