Benfica 1981 - Veloso

O Benfica tinha vindo se uma seca em que lhe tinha escapado o Campeonato por três épocas consecutivas. Foi durante a primeira temporada de Veloso no Benfica, que conseguiram dar a volta e sagrar se novamente campeões em 1980/81. Foi uma grande época para o clube, ja que também chegaram às meias-finais da Taça das Taças, onde perderam com o Carl-Zeiss Jena.
Assim então o escudo de campeão voltou para a manga da camisola durante a época seguinte. Uma camisola que aqui mostro.
Veloso nessa época foi aínda mais influente que na época de estreia, jogando 37 jogos oficiais e quase todos eles como titular. Foi o arranque de uma grande carreira, repleta de títulos e grandes momentos.
A camisola basicamente não mudou comparada com o modelo do ano anterior. Apenas o escudo de campeão faz a diferênça.

Benfica was three years without winning the championship. During his first year at the club Veloso helped to clinch the cup again in 1980/81. It was a great season for Benfica as they also reached the semis in Cup Winners Cup, where they lost to Carl Zeiss Jena.
So finally the champions crest returned to the arms of the shirts during the following season. The shirt is out of that 1981/82 season.
Veloso was even more influential during his second season with 37 matches played and almost all of them in the starting line-up. It was the beginning of what would become a great career with many titles and successes.
The shirt basically didn't change to the model of the previous year. Only the above mentioned crest makes the difference.

Portugal 1981 - Morato

António Mauricio Farinha Henriques Morato, nascido a 6 de Novembro 1964 em Lisboa, foi defesa central, formado no Sporting. Ele é filho de António Morato, que também jogou no Sporting.
Começou a jogar futebol em 1978 e passou por todos escalões de formação do clube. Estreou-se pela equipa principal em 1983, com apenas 19 anos. Na época seguinte ja foi promovido para tilular pelo então técnico John Toshack. Apesar de não ser muito alto, ele conseguiu convencer com as suas qualidades.
Permaneceu em Alvalade até 1989, acumulando quase 200 jogos oficiais e ganhando a Supertaca de 1987. Durante alguns anos até foi o capitão de equipa.
Em 1989 transferiu-se para o Porto, onde não se conseguiu impor à concorrência, e deixou o clube com o título de Campeão um ano mais tarde, rumo ao Belenenses. Aínda passou pelo Gil Vicente e o Estoril antes se retirar do Futebol em 1994, aos 29 anos de idade. Hoje ele é sócio de uma empresa que trata de segurança em estádios .
Ele representou Portugal durante várias ocasiões nos escalões de formação. Uma das camisolas que ele utilizou foi a que apresento acima. O promenor interessante é que esse modelo foi um que Portugal utilizou durante os anos finais da década de 70. Mas como sabemos, e aínda hoje é, as Selecções de Juniores aínda continuam com equipamtentos mais antigos durante um certo tempo, enquanto a Selecção A já utiliza novos. Este equipamento já mostra o novo emblema da FPF, que passou a ser utilizado desde 1980/81.

António Mauricio Farinha Henriques Morato was born on Nov 6th, 1964 in Lisbon, and was a full back for Sporting Lisbon for several years.
He started playing football in 1978, playing at all youth levels until being called for the first team in 1983 at the age of 19. During the following season he became a starting player and had the confidence of his coach John Toshack, even not having the usual characteristics of a full back. He was relatively small, but that didn´t hinder him becoming even captain of the team in later years.
He remained at Sporting until 1989, winning one Supercup in 1987, before moving to Porto. He couldn`t impose himself against his competitors and left the club the following season with only two games played, but the Champion title in the pocket.
He moved back to Lisbon, where played for Belenenses and later on for Gil Vicente and Estoril. He left football in 1994 at the age of 29.
He represented Portugal during several occasions during his youth. One of the shirts he used is shown above. The interesting thing about it, is that it was a shirt that was used by the Senior team in the late 70s, while it was used in the early 80's in his case. Youth teams often used the old models (and it's still the case) while the Seniors already played in a new outfit. Interesting aswell is the fact that the new crest was already on the shirt. It changed in 1980/81.

Aqui posso apresentar uma camisola utilizada da nossa Selecçao de 1981. Lembramos-nos que a Selecçao, com poucas excepcoes, sempre utiliza camisolas brancas como alternativas. Aqui temos uma verde, que nunca vi ser utilizada. Se alguem tiver informacoes sobre esta camsiola, por favor contacte me.


Here i can present a Portugal match worn shirt that can´t been worn very often. As most of you might know, Portugal almost ever had white away shirts. This one is a green one out of the 1981/82 season, as far as i´m informed. In fact i don´t know exactly when it was used but i´m quite sure that it is a shirt worn or prepared in 1981/82.
