Benfica 2022 - Paulo Bernardo

Mais uma camisola de uma época que aínda nao tem registo aqui.

Trata-se do terceiro equipamento da época passada (22/23) que infelizmente nunca foi utilizado pela equipa principal. Por isso fica aqui uma camisola da equipa B, que aínda utilizou este modelo em alguns jogos. 

Paulo Bernardo nasceu a 24 de Janeiro 2002 em Almada e é mais um jogador promissor "made in Benfica". Ele teve a sua formação completa na academia do Benfica e chegou à final da Youth League em 2020, mas não jogou devido á acumulação de amarelos. A partir da época seguinte fez vários jogos pela equipa B e em 21/22 fez a estreia pela equipa principal em jogos da pré época, mas mais tarde também em jogos oficiais. 

A sua posição é a de médio centro, qual ocupa muito bem. Fora de uma boa visão de jogo, possue um remate forte com o seu pé direito. 

Com a chegada de Roger Schmidt ele perdeu espaço e apenas fez uns jogos ao início da época 22/23. Voltou para a equipa B, mas como ja tinha dado o passo para a frente, decidiu-se que devia jogar a um nível mais alto. Assim foi emprestado ao Paços de Ferreira no inverno 22/23 até ao fim da época. 

Este ano voltou a ser emprestado, mas para o Celtic, onde joga regularmente e tem mostrado boas exibições.

Another shirt of a season that i haven`t posted anything of, yet.

It`s the third kit of the past season (22/23) that unfortunately never was used by our first team. That´s why i post one of the second team, that wore it in a few matches.  The pattern on the front and back, symbolize the cobblestone sidewalks of Lisbon, that are very typical to the city.

Paulo Bernardo was born on 24th od January 2002 in Almada, near Lisbon. He is another "product" of our youth academy and went through all junior levels, peaking in the 2020 Youth League final vs Real Madrid. At this time he already was rewarded with a professional contract and played for the reserve team. He is an intelligent midfielder that has his strengths in the vision of the game and his powerful right foot. 

He had his breakthrough in 2021/22 when he regularly played for the reserve team and made his debut in the first team. However things changed a bit with the arrival of Roger Schmidt, who tested him in a few pre season matches, but decided not keep him in the first team. But making a step back was not an option and so he was loaned to Paços de Ferreira in early 2023 for the rest of the season. This season the club decided to loan him again, this time to Celtic, where he seems to settle well and has played in several matches, so far.

Portugal 2018 - José Sá

 

 

Ouvi o nome de José Pedro Malheiro de Sá pela primeira vez durante o Euro de Sub21 em 2015, onde foi o nosso guarda redes durante o torneio, e Portugal chegou á final contra a Suécia. Durante todo torneio apenas sofreu um golo no tempo regular.

Voltando mais para trás, as raízes dele sao em Braga, onde nasceu a 17 de Janeiro 1993. Jogou pelo Palmeiras em Braga durante sua infância, e após curtas passagens pelo Merelinense e Benfica, ingressou no Marítimo em 2011. Jogando principalmente pela equipa B, também foi chamado para representar a equipa principal de vez em quando, a partir de 2013. Depois do Euro 2015 despertou o interesse de clubes mais soantes, e foi em 2016 que seguiu o convite para representar o FC Porto. 

Foi segunda opção, atrás de Iker Casillas, mas na segunda época, agarrou a oportunidade e tornou-se titular. Por opções técnicas voltou a perder a mesma, e na época 18/19 foi emprestado ao Olympiacos. Lá voltou a cruzar caminho com o seu antigo treinador no Marítimo, Pedro Martins. 

Foi titular e para a seguinte época, o clube grego excerceu a opção de compra. Seguiram-se dois anos bem succedidos, com dois campeonatos e uma taça. 

No verão de 2021 foi contratado pelo Wolverhampton, para substituir Rui Patricio, que tinha assinado contrato com a Roma. Tornou-se titular e continua a ser, com mais de 100 jogos pelo clube até agora. 

Pela Seleção passou pelos escalões de juniores desde os Sub 20, e teve a sua primeira internacionalização pela equipa principal em Novembro de 2023 contra o Liechtenstein. 

Esta camisola oriunda do primeiro Final Four da Liga das Nações em 2019, onde foi substituto não utilizado.

First time i heard the name of José Pedro Malheiro de Sá, better known as José Sá, was during the U21 European Championship 2015. Portugal reached the final, and José Sá only suffered one goal during the whole tournament in regular time. 

Turning back the clock further, we turn to Braga, where he was born on 17 of January 1993. He started playing football at the local club Palmeiras, and after short spells at Merelinense and Benfica in 2010 and 2011, he signed for Marítimo Funchal on Madeira in 2011. Being a junior, he usually played for the second team, but got his chances to play for the first from 2013 on. After his solid performance during the above mentioned U21 Euro, he caught the eye of bigger clubs, follwing the call of FC Porto in 2016. First only as a sub for Iker Casillas, and playing for the B team, he grabbed the chance in his second season, but only for a few matches. So in 2018 he was loaned to Olympiacos, where he crossed paths with his former coach at Marítimo, Pedro Martins. He convinced quickly and left good performances, and at the endo of season Olympiacos excercized the buyout clause. In the follwing two seasons he helped the team become back-to-back champion and win a cup.

In summer 2021 he sigend for Wolverhampton Wanderers, that looked for replacement for Rui Patrício. Quickly he became starter and favourite to the fans. Solid performances and overall quality earned him his 100th appereance a few weeks ago. 

For Portugal he went through the youth teams since U20, and had his first cap for the principal team in November 2023. 

This shirt was (bench)worn by him during the Finals of the Nations League in 2019, where Portugal won the first edition of the new format.

Benfica 2021 - Martim Neto

Hoje fica aqui uma camisola de uma época recente, neste caso da época 2021/22, da qual aínda não tinha mostrado nada.

Trata-se do modelo alternativo, tradicionalmente branco, mas que ja nem aparece todos anos. Esta camisola tem outra particularidade, o patch da Segunda Liga na manga, ja que é uma camisola da equipa B, que atua na segunda Liga.

Martim Neto nasceu a 14 de Janeiro 2003 em Viana do Castelo. Começou a jogar na "Perspectiva em Jogo" da sua cidade natal, no Futebol de 7, á idade de 7 anos e depois de uma curta passagem pelo Póvoa de Lanhoso, foi para o Benfica em 2015. Desde aí passou por todos escalões da formação encarnada e fez a sua estreia na equipa B contra o Leixões a 21 de Marco 2021. 

Ao memso tempo aínda fazia parte dos Sub23 na Liga Revelação onde era titular indiscutível. Enquanto junior ele fez parte da equipa que em 2022 ganhou a Youth League e a Taça Intercontinental. Foi fundamental no meio campo tanto com a sua visão de jogo, tal como com o seu remate poderoso. Assim foram os seus golos no jogo da meia final contra a Juventus aos 3 minutos, e depois na final aos 2 minutos, os mais rápidos na fase final. 

Em 2022 aínda se estreou pela equipa principal e foi a mais um jogo amigável no verão de 2022. No início da presente época foi emprestado ao Gil Vicente até ao fim da época, onde até agora jogou em todas partidas. 

Today i present a shirt of a recent season, namely 2021/22, of wich i haven`t posted anything so far. It`s the traditionally white away shirt, that doesn`t appear every season anymore. It has the feature of the League 2 patch on the sleeve, as it was from the B team.

Martim Carvalho Neto was born on 14th of Jan, 2003 in Viana do Castelo, northern Portugal. He is the cousin of Pedro Neto, who at this time plays for the Wolves. He started playing at the local club "Perspectiva em Jogo" for the 7-a-side football team, at the age of seven. After a brief spell at Póvoa de Lanhoso, he moved to Lisbon to start at Benfica Campus academy in 2015. He went through all stages and made his debut on senior level on 21st of March, 2021 for the B team. 

At the same time he was regular starter at the Sub23 team and played the Youth League during two seasons. In 2022 he was influential part of the team that finally conquered the title. As midfielder his vision of the game and powerful shot were important may times. So he opened the score in the semis at the third minute, only to be faster in the final at only 2 minutes of play. Both set the record for fastest goal during the final stage.

In 2022 he made his debut for the principal team vs Paços de Ferreira and he played a friendly match in summer of the same year. At the beginning of the 23/24 season he was loaned to Gil Vicente till the end of the season, where he played every match so far.

Portugal 1986 - Jorge Martins

Os anos 80, pelomenos até ao Mundial, foram a era de Bento. Mas o lado dele houve outros nomes que mostravam qualidade suficiente para receberem convites dos técnicos, para representar a Seleção. Jorge Manuel Martins da Silva foi um deles, que ao longo da carreira foi chamado várias vezes para se juntar aos escolhidos. Ele viajou para França em 1984 e para o México em 1986. 

Nasceu em Alhos Vedros a 12 de Agosto 1954. Começou a jogar futebol nas ruas e mais tarde no Barreiro, que nos anos 60-80 foi uma fonte de talentos que chegaram a jogar ao mais alto nível. Mesmo não tendo a intenção de jogar como guarda-redes, uma coíncidência lá o levou a vestir as camisolas com o número 1. Representou o Barreirense durante uma década desde junior em quase 300 jogos, antes de cobiçar o interesse do Benfica. Em 1980 mudou da margem sul para o outro lado e foi jogar para o Benfica. A situação era assim, que Bento foi titular indiscutível e assim, durante duas épocas, apenas jogou em dois jogos oficiais. Por isso transferiu-se para o Farense em 1982, onde permaneceu uma época. No ano seguinte trocou o Farense pelo Vitória de Setúbal, onde conheceu Conhé, do qual aqui ha tempos apresentei uma camisola, e que foi, como o próprio Jorge Martins referiu: "o seu único treinador de baliza". As boas exibições valeram-lhe a convocatória para representar Portugal na França. 

Em 1985 voltou a dar o salto para a margem norte, desta vez para jogar no Belenenses. Jogou no Restelo durante quatro épocas e foram as melhores, como o próprio disse. O Belenenses nos fins dos anos 80 tinha uma equipa forte e jogava regularmente nas competições europeias. Foi a duas Finais da Taça, ganhando a edição de 1989.

Depois do maior successo voltou para jogar mais duas épocas em Setúbal, antes de pendurar a botas.

Durante uma boa carreira ficou o amargo de nunca ter jogado pela Seleção. Mesmo tendo tido vários convites e ter feito parte dos eleitos nos dois grandes torneios em quais Portugal fez parte, ele não somou um minuto em campo.

The 80s, at least until de WC1986, were basically a one man show in terms of goalkeeper, for Portugal. He played almost every match. But there were others with quality to play between the posts and who received invitations to internationals. Jorge Manuel Martins da Silva was one of them. He was called several times, and also made it to France in 1984 and Mexico in 1986. 

He was born on 12th of August 1954 and played football on the streets, and later for Barreirense, that was an incredible source of quality players in the 60-80s. Many of them played on highest level. Martins played for the south bank club during a decade in almost 300 matches, before moving north to Benfica in 1980. As stated above, the situation was as discribed. It was the era of  Bento, and during his two seasons he made two apereances in oficial matches. Logically he decided to move on, and was hired by Farense in the Algarve. After an successful season, he returned north and played for Vitória Setúbal during two seasons. It was the time where he became choice of the coaches of the National Team and his displays earned him the Ticket to France.

In 1985 he returned to Lisbon, but to represent Belenenses. The third club of the capital, at that time was a regular participant in european competitions and with Martins' help it reached two Cup Finals, winning the 1989 edition. After that he returned to Setúbal, where he played for two more seasons, hanging up his boots in 1992.

Regarding his calls to represent the country, there rests a small hurt, that he never ended capped a single time. 

This shirt was part of his equipment, that he received during the 1986 WC.
