Quem nao se lembra do jogo entre Portugal e a Inglaterra no Euro 2004 quando Ricardo primeiro defendeu um penalti sem luvas, durante a marcação de grandes penalidades, e a seguir marcou o golo que nos deu a vitória?
Ricardo Alexandre Martins Soares Pereira nasceu em 1976 no Montijo e iniciou a sua carreira mesmo no clube caseiro em 1993. Depois de 18 jogos trocou o clube na época seguinte para jogar no Porto pelo Boavista. Permaneceu lá 9 épocas e viveu lá os momentos maiores do clube axadrêsado. Foi vencedor da Taça de Portugal e Supertaça em 1997 e sagrou se campeão em 2001. Para mais chegou às meias-finais da Taca UEFA em 2003.
Numa das transferências mais caras do Futebol Português, ca. 7m Euros, trocou o emblema nortenho pelo Sporting e conseguiu também aí ser um dos jogadores mais influenciais. Ganhou mais uma Taça em 2007 e até foi à Final da Taca UEFA em 2005.
As suas estadias no estrangeiro foram mal lembradas e depois de 4 épocas na Espanha e Inglaterra, voltou para Portugal para representar o Vitória de Setúbal.
A estreia pela Selecção foi em 2001 no jogo contra a República da Irlanda. Especialmente durante o Euro 2004 e Mundial 2006 ele fez alguns jogos incríveis. Um deles o já mencionado jogo contra a Inglaterra em 2004. Mas também o jogo contra o mesmo adversário no Mundial 2006 em que foi o primeiro guarda redes a salvar 3 penalties num Mundial. Recorde que lhe ainda pertence.
Esta camisola foi preparada para ele em 2003, para o jogo contra a Grécia. Na secção do Estádio da Luz, na página inicial, pode ver um pequeno video do que aconteceu depois do jogo contra a Inglaterra no Euro 2004.
For us portuguese the match of the Euro 2004 vs. England was one of the most memorable games in recent history. Despite the fact that it might not have deserved a winner, the way how we made it into the semis was a demonstration of pure will and determination. One of the pilars of the team was Ricardo who defended a penalty without gloves and scored the last one to seal presence in the semis.
Ricardo Alexandre Martins Soares Pereira was born in 1976 in a small town nearby Lisbon, called Montijo. He started his career at the home club in 1993 before moving to Boavista in 1994. During his time at the Porto based club, that lasted for 9 seasons, he witnessed the best years in the history of the "chequered". It started with the Portuguese Cup and Supercup in 1997, went on with the first and only Championship in 2001 and ended with the Semis of the UEFA Cup two years later.
It was time to go for new challenges and this made him move to Sporting Lisbon. In his first year he reached the Final of the UEFA Cup played on home soil but lost to CSKA Moskow and in 2007 victory at the Portuguese Cup.
His next steps in his career were not successful at all so that he struggled to show his abilities for Betis of Seville and Leicester City. So he moved back to his homecountry where now plays for Vitória Setúbal.
He gave his debut for the National Team in 2001 vs. Ireland. During the EC and WC 2004 and 2006 he had his best moments, especially in the matches vs. England. His record of saving 3 penalties in the shoot out of a WC is still intact. He was capped 79 times.

Um excelente guarda-redes, que na minha opinião saíu cedo demais da selecção. A saída para Espanha foi um erro tremendo, mas enfim...ninguém poderia advinhar que iria correr mal.

Mas que raio de campeonato é o nosso? Um guarda-redes como Ricardo não ser titular na I Liga?
Cada vez percebo menos disto...
